A parent group can initiate, develop, help improve, co-sponsor with the school, a number of useful projects of value to students, parents and school.
- Block parent program
- Call-back program
- School directory
- School handbook
- Parent newsletter, separate from school newsletter
- Review of school philosophy, goals, programs
- Budget input on school discretionary funds
- Suggest parent involvement in school in-service programs, especially if interesting speakers invited
- Ensure trustees know your school; attend school board meetings
- Parent library
- Encourage parent attendance at education workshops
- Participate in district’s umbrella group (or help form one)
- Meaningful meetings
- Review junk/nutritious food ratio in cafeteria
- Review of parent group’s goals, philosophy
- Student scholarships, traditional and innovative awards
- Displays of student work, in school and community
- Parent volunteer program
- Parent questionnaire
- Writing style and standards handbook
